WairGlove

What's WairGlove?

WairGlove is a dispositive maked by Jordi Domènech Bonilla that lets you use your hand as a mouse. The difference between this project and others is that it lets you to control the mouse in the air, without touching any screen. It uses Wiimote tecnology, using its hardware, but quite different than the normal procedure.


Actual state of the project

Now it's possible to use the cursor of a GNU/Linux PC (under Ubuntu, I haven't tried it in other distros) and control the left and right buttons with te glove. In a few days I will add the HOWTO information.


Future plans

• Search how to do the same but with 2 gloves.
   

Glove fabrication (First version)

You'll need:

• An old glove
• An old TV remote with a IR LED or a simple IR LED
• 1'5 V battery
• Sellotape
• Tin and soldering iron
• Different tools
• Electric cable

Process:

1. Open the TV remote. 
2. With a cut tool, cut the little rectangle that contains the IR LED. 
3. Cut the necessary electric cable. You must cut the size between your index finger and the bottom of the glove, a little more. You must cut two, one for the positive side of the battery and another for the negative. The second must be a little larger than the first cable.
4. Cut the largest cable in two pieces of more or less the same size and prepare the cables for soldering.
5. Solda el cable que resta entero de uno de los polos de la pila hasta uno de los conectores del LED. Vigila que la polaridad sea la correcta. Después, de los dos cables que quedan, solda una punta de un al LED y la otra punta del otro al polo restante de la pila. Las dos puntas que quedan sin soldar son por poder poner en marcha o apagar el LED conectandolos entre sí. 
6. Únelo todo al guante con cinta adhesiva o pegamento de pistola. (Nota: Recomiendo hacerlo con el guante puesto).

Configuración del PC

Necessitas:

• Ordenador con GNU/Linux
• Adaptador Bluetooth
• Wiimote (Mando de Wii)

Proceso:

1. Bájate los drivers Cwiid y instalalos a tu ordenador. En esta web hay un tutorial muy bueno de como hacerlo. 
2. Busca la carpeta de los scripts de wminput. 
3. En superusuario, edita el fichero "buttons" por tal de que el botón izquierdo quede al botón C de Nunchuk y el botón derecho al botón Z del Nunchuk. 
4. En superusuario, copia el fichero ir_ptr y ponle otro nombre, recomiendo "wairglove". Edítalo, también en superusuari, y pon un simbol "-" (sin las comillas) tras los dos iguales, justo delante de "ABS". Guárdalo. 
5. Desde terminal, ejecuta:
   
   wminput -w -c wairglove 
6. Colócate el Wiimote al cuello, al lado de la mano en que uses el WairGlove, y conectalo al Nunchuk. Para aguantarlo, yo uso una cinta de cabello atada a un velcro. Intenta que quede lo más horizontal posible. 
7. Pulsa los botones 1 y 2 del Wiimote a la vez. 
8. Ya puedes usar el WairGlove en GNU/Linux.
